Our Roof Replacement Process
Every roof replacement starts with a full survey of the existing covering and the structure beneath it. The final specification is confirmed in the quotation, but here's how the job runs from start to finish.

Here's how we work

Free roof survey and quotation - We inspect the covering, timbers, flashings and rainwater goods, go into the loft where we can, and tell you honestly whether a repair or a full replacement is the right call. You then receive a clear, no-obligation quotation setting out the specification line by line.

Scaffolding and site protection - Scaffolding is arranged and signed off before any work starts. We agree access, parking and skip placement with you in advance, and protect driveways, paths, planting and windows.

Stripping the existing roof - The old tiles or slates, battens and felt are removed and cleared straight into a covered skip. The roof is left protected against the weather at the end of every working day, whatever the forecast.

Timber inspection and agreed repairs - With the roof stripped we can finally see the rafters, roof edge and fascia line properly. Anything rotten or moved is shown to you and priced in writing before we touch it, so nothing appears on your invoice as a surprise.

New membrane, battens and covering - A breathable membrane and new treated battens go on, then your agreed tiles or slates are laid, with the ridge, verges, valleys and lead flashings detailed to match the property.

Final inspection, clean-down and guarantee - We walk the finished roof with you, clear the site, remove the scaffolding and hand over your written guarantee and paperwork.

Q: How do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?
A: Usually you don't, and that's exactly what the survey is for. As a rough guide: isolated slipped tiles, one damp patch or a single failed flashing is a repair. Widespread slipping, sagging, crumbling mortar across the whole roof, or a covering past its expected life is a replacement. We'll go up, take photographs, show you what we've found, and tell you straight which one you're looking at.
Q: What happens if it rains while my roof is off?
A: We never leave a roof open overnight. The roof is sheeted and made watertight at the end of every working day regardless of the forecast, and we don't strip more in a day than we can cover before we leave.
Q: Is scaffolding included in the price?
A: Yes. Scaffolding, its erection, its sign-off and its removal are all included in your quotation. So is the skip and the disposal of all the old materials.
Q: Do you guarantee the work?
A: Yes — every roof replacement comes with a written guarantee of 20 years. You get the paperwork on the day we finish.
Q: Do I need planning permission for a new roof?
A: For a like-for-like replacement, almost never. If you're changing the roof line, the materials on a listed building, or you're in a conservation area, it can be a different story. We'll flag it at survey stage if we think it applies to you.
